The Marriage of Ethan and Erin

I have often thought of how all days eventually do come in life, as I have now witnessed over 47 years (almost 17,155 days) come and go. Every day is a gift from God and is a blessing. But some days are milestones and memories that will be cherished forever.

The meaningful and sacred ceremony.

One such milestone for us was this past summer when our family had our first wedding. We all watched the day come when one of our own took a lovely bride and was united with her before the Lord to begin to build something beautiful together in this world.

Our son Ethan met a special young lady named Erin while attending Bob Jones University in the final days of his freshman year in 2021. He came home that summer, and would strangely disappear into the recesses of the basement on many an evening as the rest of us carried on with our regular business. After a while we all began to hear the rumor that, well, there was this girl… and there were phone calls going on… and the rest is history.

What God has joined together.

Ethan and Erin (affectionately known as “E&E” around our tribe) began to get to know each other and eventually recognized God’s hand leading them to unite in marriage. And before we all knew it, we were gathered together with some of the dearest to us on earth, witnessing the two of them make solemn promises of life-long commitment to each other, and to the Lord.

Us Halls with our new addition to the family.

If you want to know all the in-between details of their story you can read up on it at their wedding webpage, so I am not going to put all of that down here. But it is the story of a faithful God bringing two young people together in His own way and in His own time to begin to grow and build together for Christ’s kingdom. And their story is part of a much larger story of God accomplishing His will within this world of building the Kingdom of God on earth through His people.

And that is our constant prayer for Ethan and Erin, and for all of our children, that they would keep this purpose before them all of their days, working together to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in the world in whatever God has planned for them.

No, they were not very nice here. I knew they wouldn’t be…

Our first family wedding really was an amazing day. And if there had been any doubt in my mind (which there wasn’t) of the commitment and love that Ethan had for Erin, it certainly would have vanished when I saw our reserved Ethan skillfully dancing with his bride to John Denver’s “Annie’s Song” in front of the crowd that day. I knew in that moment that this guy would truly do anything for his girl!

“Come let me love you, let me give my life to you.”

P.S. If you would like to, you can keep up with Ethan and Erin on their social media or at their shared blog called E-Squared.
