Parable of the Seed

Once there was a little seed. It was a beautiful seed, black and shiny, and it thought of itself very highly. It wanted to be set in a prominent place where it could be admired by all who passed by. It took great care for its image and comfort at all times, and despised the thought of ever being planted in the ground, out of sight and so under-valued in the eyes of the world. It never intended to let that happen if it could possibly avoid it. It had heard of what happened to seeds when they were planted, and it wasn’t at all interested in going that direction in life…

Seedling in photo found by our daughter Annalise as we were tilling in the garden one evening.

How silly, we say. That seed has no idea of its purpose and potential!

How much purpose and potential do we miss as Christians when we treasure our own life, image, comfort and preferences above all else?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

John 12:24

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3
