The Marriage of Jared and Katelyn

You try not to cry at any wedding, but it’s really hard at the wedding of your own daughter.

And then, how do you handle things when she chooses to play the theme to Anne of Green Gables, while you as the father of the bride are walking her down the aisle?

Well, then there is just no hope.

The happy and in-love couple.

All days eventually do come, and I will always have wonderful memories of walking my first daughter down the aisle at a beautiful outdoor wedding on a summer evening in South Carolina. This is the second wedding for our family in two years, another milestone on the way.

Walking down the aisle.
A dad and his daughter.

Our daughter Katelyn met a fine and godly young man in the Greenville, South Carolina area named Jared Miller, and we have been thrilled to welcome our first son-in-law into our ever-expanding family circle.

Both Katelyn and Jared attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, but not at the same time, so they did not actually meet in college. They crossed paths in the Greenville community. And when I say they “crossed paths,” I really mean it. They met at a swing dancing venue… and so began their story together.

“In the Mood” for a dance.

Katelyn and Jared began to get to know one another, and eventually realized that God was leading them to marriage. They both joined with a local church in their area, and the folks of that church community were a big part of their wedding ceremony this past summer.

It was a beautiful ceremony where we witnessed Jared and Katelyn making a covenant with God and with each other, to have and to hold for the rest of their lives. Included was a special prayer of dedication, where all family members surrounded the newly wedded couple, asking for God’s favor and blessing upon them.

Prayer of dedication at the ceremony.

Our prayer for all of our children is that they faithfully walk with the Lord all of their days, and walk faithfully together with the one God has led them to serve along side in this life. We pray they will be fruit-bearing plants in the garden of righteousness and praise that the Lord is planting in this world. (Isaiah 61:11) That they will be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in the world, working together in whatever God has planned for them.

“…and the two shall become one flesh.
Our ever-expanding family circle.

When Katelyn was very small I wrote a little lullaby song called “Perfect Plan” while observing my beautiful baby girl. I thought of God’s perfect plan in his giving of life and in His leading in life. God has a plan for each one of our lives, as we seek to follow His guidance each step of the way. I am so very thankful for His grace and mercy.

And I am thankful for His sovereign leading in bringing Jared and Katelyn Miller together in marriage in His perfect plan.

You can keep up with them at Katelyn’s Instagram .

They were both very nice to each other.
“To have and to hold from this day forward.”
