My New Favorite Coffee

My lovely wife and I are celebrating our 24 year anniversary today. After nearly a quarter of a century we still love to hang out together. We decided to head down to Arthur, Illinois, “The Heart of the Illinois Amish Country” as the sign says. We do very different things on our anniversary, my wife and I. Things like driving to new and unexplored places, just the two of us. Walking the shops, making irresponsible purchases, eating really good food— just the two of us.

And going to new coffee shops.

Today I ordered a latte with oat milk at RoseLen’s Coffee and Delights in Arthur. I do not get any flavor in it as it usually makes the coffee way too sweet. I just add my own sugar, not too much. It’s creamy and smooth, and has a hearty, nutty sort of flavor. Very, very good. My son Joshua actually introduced oat milk to me, and I have found that I really like it in coffee. It is also a great alternative for those who have a hard time with dairy products.

I actually accidentally said, “I would like a medium latte with goat milk.” I immediately realized what I had uttered, and then a bit of panic took over as I wondered if the dear little Amish girls might actually have goat milk for their coffee creations, so I quickly made the correction. Nobody laughed at me. Except my wife as we discussed it later.

A latte with OATmilk, and just add your own sugar to your preference. I highly recommend it. It’s my new favorite coffee, and it’s especially good when hangin’ out with my favorite girl in Amish country.

  1. I make my own oat milk. So easy! 1 cup of rolled oats, 2 cups of water. Mix in blender on high for 20 seconds. Strain. (Compost the stuff left in the strainer.) Refrigerate. Lasts about one week on the fridge. Enjoy!
