Prayer at the County Board Meeting

I had the opportunity to give the opening prayer at our local county board meeting recently. With all of our problems, what a blessing it is to live in a free nation where we can still openly pray to God, and invoke and lift up the name of Jesus in the public arena. May we all remember that there is a law higher than our laws, and a King far above our leaders. Our counties, states, and nation are blessed when we put our trust in Him.

“Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.” Psalm 2:10-11

Heavenly Father,

We come to you this morning, thanking you for all of your great blessings to us. We acknowledge you as the true and living God, the great Creator of all things, the One who holds our very breath in your hands.

In you we live, and move, and have our being.

We thank you for life, and also for the liberty that we have in this great country. We are blessed by the institutions you have given us, the home and family, the church, and the institution of government.

This morning I pray for our leadership, for our governor, and our state and local officials. Lord, give them wisdom to face their unique challenges. May they have insights into the needs of the communities within this county, and discernment to make the right and best decisions.

I thank you for the laws that keep us all safe, and that help to govern our land, and to bring us peace. But may we remember that there is a law that is higher than any law of any man—Your own law, found in your Word—the foundation on which this nation was built.

Most of all this morning we thank you for Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, who died on the cross, paying the penalty for the sin for all who believe on Him. We thank you that He rose up from the dead, defeating death, Hell, and the grave, and is now, and forever will be, far above all principalities and powers and rulers of earth.

Lord, bless this meeting of the county board today I pray, and may you be glorified in all that is done here today.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
