We are told that this will be the most-viewed eclipse ever.

According to NASA, “a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting the Moon’s shadow on Earth. This only happens occasionally, because the Moon doesn’t orbit in the exact same plane as the Sun and Earth do. Two things need to occur at once for you to see a solar eclipse: the Sun, Moon, and Earth need to be in a straight line, with the Moon between the Sun and Earth; and you need to be standing in the correct spot on Earth.” (https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/)
How can this happen when the sun is so much bigger than the moon? Well, as we all learned in school days, the sun is also much further away. The Sun’s diameter is approximately 400 times larger than that of the Moon. Is it only a coincidence that it also lies roughly 400 times farther away, allowing the solar and lunar disks to appear to be the same size in our sky? Is it only a coincidence that this allows a solar eclipse transpire on occasion to be viewed by all?
When God made the world He made a masterpiece. He placed people after His own image within His masterpiece. He commissioned the people to fill it, and take dominion over everything God had placed in it.
For thousands of years that first great commission has been carried out, and mankind has worked and studied to figure things out in every corner of this amazing created world.
We have learned so much about how the world works. The order and predictability of nature give testimony to a Creator. A majestic solar eclipse is an example of this.
So, is the solar eclipse a sign for us to recognize in the sky? Yes, it certainly is. Now that we have learned so much about how these type of events actually work, it is a reminder of the great creative work of God and of His order within the world.
No, I do not believe it is a sign of impending doom, or a final warning of judgment for America, or anything of the sort. Sure, God is to be feared, but why would we take what we have learned to be a wonder of God’s created order and use it in an attempt to scare people to death?
A solar eclipse is a sign of the glory and majesty of the Creator God, and should remind us to fall on our knees and worship Him.
And may God continue to work through people to make more and more advancements in His world, growing our understanding of how He has made it, bringing more and more people into the knowledge of Him!
