About four and a half years ago, our family’s path was redirected into a very different sort of work than we had ever been involved in before. We would now be working in an apologetics ministry, demonstrating the reliability of the Bible, specifically the ancient Old Testament accounts. The main thing that sets our work apart from many other apologetics ministries is the data-rich apologetic that we are seeking to communicate—something that is desperately needed in our present culture.
In order to have a data-rich apologetic, one must be able to demonstrate the reality of ancient biblical events in the real world, using real-world secular history, archaeology, and chronological data. This requires the use of modern scientific disciplines, as well as specially-designed modern scientific tools that give us an accurate view of the past. We are greatly privileged in our day to have such tools at our disposal.
Radiocarbon dating is one of those tools. It is used to date artifacts from up to 50,000 years ago. However, this (of course) causes a conundrum for the Bible believer, as we discussed in last month’s podcast. Some Christian groups claim that radiocarbon dating is unreliable science, based on assumptions, and involves circular reasoning. Some imply that radiocarbon dating is a hoax. Is any of this true?
In this episode, we hear directly from Dr. Aardsma (who specializes in chronology and radiocarbon dating) on this topic. Is it possible that the Christian should really be seeing radiocarbon dating as an amazing gift from God? I hope you will listen in as we take a look at this incredible modern advancement, and seek to give God glory for allowing us to take more of a peek into His wonderful creation.
