Ancient Bible Stories: Hear Them Again for the First Time

🎧 Listen to the article:

How did God actually bring water to the Children of Israel in the wilderness, from a rock? Can we understand what manna was and how it came about? Is there an explanation for the undrinkable waters of Marah becoming drinkable again?

The stories surrounding the Exodus of Israel from Egypt and their journey to the Promised Land is central to the message of the Bible. There are some pretty wild narratives of God’s protection of and provision for His people in the wilderness. I would like to share with you some details about these stories that, as far as I know, nobody has ever heard before.

I love the work that God has presently called our family into. I am constantly amazed as we are able to see more clearly how God worked in the past to accomplish His ultimate purposes of redemption and restoration within this fallen world, as revealed in the Scriptures. And at times being able to see how God worked these miracles, we are strengthened in our faith that He truly did them. Apparently God did these things in such a way that we can understand the details of these events, even five thousand years down the road. It is thrilling to get more details of the story, and be able to demonstrate the reality of these accounts in the real world. It is not an easy work, by any means—Christians are having a hard time with boxes of paradigms, and atheists are taken aback by what to them is a strange form of apologetics they haven’t heard before—but it is still exciting nonetheless.

Apparently God did these things in such a way that we can understand the details of these events, even five thousand years down the road.

Some History

About four years ago our family began a new ministry we ended up calling “Truth in Time.” We moved to small town Illinois to work with my father-in-law, Dr. Gerald Aardsma, mainly for the purpose of communicating the fascinating discoveries that had been accumulating over the last few decades, resulting from his intense and laborious research. Some of the research was even demonstrating that lives could literally be saved, and people needed to hear about it.

We chose the name “Truth in Time” for the public speaking arm of the work for various reasons:

  • The backbone of the research is biblical chronology, so quite literally, it is truth in time—truth observed on a timeline.
  • The work is an apologetics ministry, bringing the truth to those who have had their faith eroded away by false information, in order that they may come to a knowledge of the truth before it is too late.
  • The research on the long lifespans recorded in Genesis is showing to be vital life-saving information that people need to understand, again, before it is too late.

The main key that has unlocked the discoveries by Dr. Aardsma is correct biblical chronology, thus being able to find the events described in the Old Testament within the “real-world.” The end result of having this corrected chronology has proved to be beyond what anyone ever imagined.

One of those end results is having a more complete comprehension of the Old Testament accounts, and of how the Lord worked among His people. The fruit in this area is ripe, hanging on the vine, just ready to be picked and benefitted from.

A New Series

I am planning to begin a series of posts looking at some of these biblical events from the Old Testament. With the corrected chronology, we see how these stories actually occurred in the real world, thus giving us an even better understanding of the Author behind them.

One of the phrases we use a lot around our ministry is, “true stories are found in real-world history.” And to find a story in history you have to know two key elements of the story, where it took place, and when it took place. Is the account told to be in a real place in the real world, and is it able to be pinpointed on a real-world timeline?

The stories we will look at in our posts will all begin with the place where the events were supposed to have happened. We will begin at a place called Rephidim. And we will discover that God’s works in history have everything to do with His works in our lives today. This will be brief science and sermons all in one. I hope you will follow along.
